With an A.S. in Fashion Merchandising and a B.S. in Textile Design, I took my passion for color, texture and design a step further into Nature Photography, Graphic Design and Mixed Media Design. My note cards and holiday cards have been carried by Hallmark and other retailers, and I have created everything from brochures to websites and print ads, in both the commercial and residential industries. I have been the lucky recipient of several awards, featured in both galleries and websites, and most recently was published in the hard copy book BirdWatching Magazine's Bird Portrait Photo Contest as one of the finalists in their yearly international photography contest. In addition, two of my compositions were chosen by the Boston affiliate of the Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) for sale in the esteemed, juried Spring and Summer Fine Art Auction held both on-line and in public display.
My mixed media designs on canvas combine my background in textile design, visual merchandising and nature photography. In this medium, I take a photograph and then digitally manipulate it on the computer using various programs, filters and freehand design techniques to achieve an abstract design that no longer represents the original photographic image. That image is then duplicated on museum quality canvas and stretched over a wooden frame, ready to hang. Each piece is sold with the original photograph from which it evolved. It is very rewarding and I enjoy creating custom, one of a kind pieces for both the public and private sector.
From small spaces, to far off places, I strive to capture the beauty in nature that evokes thought, wonder and surprise. Seeing the world as an endless palette of design, I seek out the intrinsic beauty of the subject matter not so obvious to the casual observer.
